A Spoonful of Liqueur Helps…..

……the meds go down……….

So I’ve been whining a lot lately. Part of my whining is due to Tylenol not being strong enough to ease the pain in my “good” leg. I use the term “good” loosely because since my left leg is doing the job for both my legs and is not “athletic” in the sense of being able to easily withstand the added weight, I’ve screwed something up in my knee. It probably did not help that for the first few days I was hopping around on it as if I were still a cheerleader in high school. I do still have Lorcet (thank God!) but it tends to make me drowsy and falling asleep at my new job is probably not a good idea. Especially since I am already a liability case. :-(

I’ve been thinking that perhaps alcohol is a good alternate route. Not at work of course, but during the 16 remaining hours of the day….. I’ve compiled a few recipes for drinks that can really mess a person up (to the point of felling no pain. At least until the hangover hits.) I’ve picked drinks that I found fitting for this blog. Feel free to add any of your favorites that I may have missed. I typically drink wine so I need your interjections to broaden my soon to be lush-y horizons. :-)

Zombie
1/2 oz BacardiĀ® 151 rum
1 oz pineapple juice
1 oz orange juice
1/2 oz apricot brandy
1 tsp sugar
2 oz light rum
1 oz dark rum
1 oz lime juice

**Blend all ingredients with ice except Bacardi 151 proof rum. Pour into a glass. Float Bacardi 151 proof rum on top. Garnish with a fruit slice, sprig of mint and a cherry.

Vampire
1 oz Chambord raspberry liqueur
1 oz Vodka
1 oz Cranberry juice
**Combine ingredients in a shaker over ice. Serve as shots in a highball glass.

Vampire’s Kiss
2 oz Vodka
1/2 oz dry Gin
1/2 oz Dry Vermouth
1 tblsp Tequila
1 pinch Salt
2 oz Tomato juice
**Shake with ice. Strain over ice in an old fashioned glass.

Brain Hemmorhage
1 oz Peach schnapps
1 tsp Bailey’s Irish cream
1/2 tsp Grenadine
**First, pour the peach schnapps. Then, slowly pour the Irish Cream. Do not mix! The Creme will clump together and settle at the bottom of the schnapps. It will have the appearance of an internal organ!! Pour the grenadine over the Creme for a completely disgusting looking, yet thoroughly tasty party drink!

Graveyard
1 or 1/2 pint Triple sec
1 or 1/2 pint Bacardi 151 proof rum
1 or 1/2 pint Vodka
1 or 1/2 pint Gin
1 or 1/2 pint Tequila
1 or 1/2 pint Bourbon
1 or 1/2 pint Scotch
Beer
Stout
**Mix the 5 whites and 2 whiskeys in a beer mug in equal amounts. Top up the rest of the mug with half beer and half stout.
WARNING! This is very strong stuff! Do NOT attempt to drink it if you’re not a good drinker. You’ll be sending yourself to your own graveyard, thus the name of the drink.

Graveyard Lite
1 or 1/2 pint Triple sec
1 or 1/2 pint Bacardi 151 proof rum
1 or 1/2 pint Vodka
1 or 1/2 pint Gin
1 or 1/2 pint Tequila
Beer
Stout
**Mix the 5 whites in equal amounts in a beer mug. fill up the rest of the space with half beer and half stout.

Little Black Devil
White Creme de Menthe
Dark rum
**Pour into shot glass. Serve.

Devil’s Piss
Everclear
Lemonade
**Using a large glass of water, add lemonade concentrate to taste of choice (it’s best if you make it a little stronger than usual.) Add the 1.5 shots of Everclear and be sure to mix well!

Demon Drop
1/2 oz Everclear
1/2 oz Orange juice
**Add the Everclear first and then the OJ so the OJ settles on the top. Then shoot it. Repeat.

Warning! This is a nasty little drink guaranteed to mess you up. You’ll hardly taste the Everclear so it is easy to do 5 or 6. One shot equals about a beer or a beer and a half.

Mind Eraser
2 oz Vodka 2 oz Kahlua 2 oz Tonic water
**Pour vodka into a tall glass, the Kahlua and then the tonic water. Serve with a straw. (I stuck this one in not because the name of the drink fits the category, rather because it’s just a really good drink! Be sure to chug this one for quickest effects!

And lastly, for when you need a quick fix for that nasty hangover, a little Hair of the Dog fixer upper (since I hate Bloody Marys):

6 oz Bulldog Gin
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
2-3 dashes Tabasco sauce
slice of chili pepper
**Pour the Bulldog Gin and Tabasco into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake generously. Strain into a chilled rocks glass and garnish with a chili pepper.

Claire - I am not sure I know what Frog “Spunk” is but it certainly sounds entertaining! Thanks for sharing!

And to both of you, I am not mixing the meds and the booze…. yet….. :-)

I am always on the lookout for kindred deranged minds.

I have been stalking you for some time, but have never commented.

    You qualify.

    :)

PS-I know you can’t see my avatar on this platform, but it was the pictures of the little doggies on your “about” page that finally made me feel safe to come on in.

PPS-I promise I’ll never drop my hat in your presence. :)

RYNE - I can’t wait to try some of the ones I have not yet tried out. I will be sure to post about it when I do tho!

CLAIRE - I don’t think out definition of “spunk” is the same….. yours sounds “funner”

MAX - glad to see ya posting! And feel free to stalk my blog! Nothing like a little spice to liven things up a bit, and Tabasco in the panties is probably not something I would enjoy. And thanks for the compliment!! Being deranged (weird?) is something I do best.
