Anybody got a GOOD theme?
So if any of you have visited my blog in the last few days, then you would know it has been in "maintenance mode." It would seem the theme I PAID for is CRAP. I had been having minor trouble with it since day one but have learned to live with those problems.
Well, on Friday night I started getting database errors. In trying to work with my server host, or host server, or whatever the F they are called, we ascertained it is yet another problem with my theme. Needless to say I am not a happy camper.
SO yet again I am on the hunt for a theme I can be happy with that will not F up. Translation - yet another theme I will pay for. Cuz as you can see from this one, these free themes totally blow. And I have tweaked this one LOTS - it looked way worse right out of the gate.
So I am on the hunt for a great theme yet again, be it free or otherwise. Feel free to let me know of any great wordpress themes you know of.
And please don't abandon me during my ugly stage. I promise to have a face lift before too long... I hope anyway. At least I will tweak this one to look half way decent.

That sucks! I’m not on WordPress but I feel your pain. One of these days I’m probably going to have to make my own theme.

I wish you would consider getting down in the mud with those of us on blogspot. Some of them look pretty good, like Chica’s and Claire’s. Some don’t. But almost all seem to be up and running most of the time. Make up a secret name and open a blogspot blog. And then I could read you every day and still no one would know who you really are except a few of us. And the bright side of it is, you could still screw around with code with WordPress at the same time, and keep spending money as well. Win-win. You wouldn’t have to give up anything at all. ZombieBabe.blogspot.com isn’t taken yet. I am sorry you are having troubles.

Meh, I’ve known Blogspot to lose people’s data before; hopefully you’re making backups of your content there if you consider it important.
Personally I prefer the control of doing things myself; to each their own.

I thought your themes look like some sort of WordPress theme. I have stuck with the one I use, Halloween, from the start nearly, though I went through a dozen at least. In the problem area I have had no issues and it seems okay with WP 2.6, but I have some problems with WP with posting and formatting. I am not alone in this the forums show. If you look at my site closely you will see like black hyphens between all the paragraphs and images… because if I do not do this all the images “scrunch” up together. I am not sure if it is a theme issue alone, as many people have this problem and WP does not seem to resolve it in their updates. Like me you seem to prefer a right hand column layout. If you use WordPress as your platform you should have hundreds, if not thousands, of free, good themes to select. I am worried if I may assume too much or too little and offend you. You know where to go to search for all the themes and then how to FTP them up to your site, right? Sorry if you do and if you do not I will try to help you. Better to write me at my public email

All my site related mail (and spam) goes there and it is not my private email.
Wordpress has some issues but it is doable and has a lot of options some other sites don’t have, but it has a lot of crap they don’t have either.
Let me know if I can help. I am in China and both WordPress and Blogspot are banned here, so I have do like you and run as a platform (I forget the techy initials) for a paid site. I am screwed on either choice as a stand alone free blog.
I still have to use a proxy to get to you and that is a problem too for me and I worry my site with lose the server connection, but so far so good. I simply cannot edit my site from a proxy!
Anyway, let me know. If you do not know there are lots and lots of themes you can choose and you can enable them and disable them at will after you have installed the, you can have 20 or 30 themes in your theme directory and change them with the flick of the mouse and then back again.

Also. like Lurple says, it is good to back your stuff up once you get into monkeying with all your database and maybe having to change service providers. I did it the hard way and backed it all up as html on notepads and reinstalled it all on my site on friggin’ notepad at a time. I have since learned you can export all your WordPress data as an XML flle and store it on your computer and then import it all back to a new WordPress site later.
I think keeping with a yoursite.com situation is better in the long run but it is obviously not problem free and much of my free time is spent tweaking stuff, but you have the option of doing the tweaking… so hang in there kiddo…

I don’t think this one looks bad. I looked all over for some themes I liked, and I ended up just sticking with the one I’m using because it was the easiest for me to set up and customize. I’m using k2. check it out if you’re interested at http://getk2.com/

I used to have a hosted blog. It was too restricted and I had to move to my own domain. I can’t imagine moving backwards to a more limited blog owned by someone else.
You can do a search for “free premium wordpress themes” and you will get a pile of great results.
