I remember seeing "The Born Losers" when it first played in theatres, and subsequently the "Billy Jack" films. It was some years later that I realized that BL had been the first.
What surprised both me and my friends when we saw it, was the location they had used for the opening scene: a local hamberger stand/main street of Seal Beach, California! We had been going to Seal Beach for years, during the summer, and never realized they had filmed a movie there. To a bunch of 12 and 13 year olds (at the time) we were thrilled!
It was films like Born Losers, that lead to the rating system of the MPAA, due to the violence and nudity, and that kids like us could get in to see it. At that time, only the theatre owners determined whether it was "adults only" or not, and was rarely enforced. Ratings of G-PG-R-X didn't exist.

it's not cheese! Some AI pics have a serious helping.. but, Billy Jack..the 2nd movie, the student film association one.. it's classic in it's own right. I was not not aware that Born Losers was the First installment! Thanks for the info. I have owned the music soundtrack LP for years, I even have had the Cover LP pic on my computer desktop for sometime.so it's quite a surprise to see the connection with the billy Jack series.
