Trailer Park of Terror

Catchy title, isn't it? You have to admit, it's somewhat intriguing (dare I say enticing?) even if the title implies that it will be filled with nothing more than white trash stereotypes. One thing I knew for sure though, and that was that this movie was right up my alley!

For starters, one of the headliners was Trace Adkins, and when a country singer stars in a movie with terror in the title, you know it's game on. Secondly, the synopsis promised zombies (can you give me a redneck yee-haw??)

But what you might not know, what I did not know, is that this movie is based on a comic book series of the same title. Now I don't know about you guys, but I think that's worthy of a double yee-haw! (aka redneck hell!)

The Prologue

Trailer Park of Terror starts out with Nichole Hiltz playing the role of Norma, a simple girl (albeit a hot one) who just wants out of her trailer park hell heaven. She thinks she thinks she has found her "out" in her boyfriend Aaron, who comes to whisk her away with his trusty white steed pickup truck. Unfortunately Norma's redneck trailer buddies don't take too kindly to "outsiders" and while taunting him, end up accidentally killing him.

In anger and pain over her dreams of escaping her life in hell dark little corner of the world, we see Norma walk off aimlessly and happen upon a nameless stranger on the side of the road. This stranger (Trace Adkins) has a commanding presence about him, tinged with an air of evil as evidenced by his steam inducing pee and truck bed of disappearing snakes (lost you on that one, huh? Just watch the movie. You'll see what I mean.) But Norma is not frightened; she appears actually happy when he silently hands her a gun, but by taking the gun and using it, she agrees to an unspoken deal with the devil; a deal that will ruin lives for years to come.

So with renewed determination, Norma heads back to her trailer park home where she burns it to the ground, but not before killing herself along with everyone else in a bloody (and actually kind of gory) rage of revenge.

Unexplained disappearances happen year after year at the charred remains of the trailer park's location aptly dubbed Trucker's Triangle. No one who enters ever finds their way out so no one ever knows why.....

The Plot

Preacher man Lewis is on his way back from a week’s retreat with some seemingly derelict teens when he manages to wreck their bus at the entrance of Trucker’s Triangle during a thunderstorm. Unluckily for them, they see Tophet Meadows Trailer Park in all its glory, promising shelter and warmth. One trailer in particular offers just that along with a “host” who happens to look amazingly like Norma.

No time is wasted as the director literally cuts to the chase. We learn that Norma is the zombie Queen of her trailer park world and that all the backwoods yokels she wasted are now her redneck zombie lackeys:

  • The obscenely obese female who only wants to eat “meat” and proceeds to do just that – raw….
  • The gun toting bubba whose ill placed explosives (gotta protect the “crops” -that’s ganja, cannabis, weed, grass, pot, or just plain marijuana for you slow folk) caused him to “self implode.” So while he waited patiently for his buddy to piece him back together with duck tape, proceeded to play with his exposed entrails, and heckle the terrified teen he was chasing...
  • The Asian masseuse whose specialty is “happy endings.” The only problem being is that a zombie’s idea of a happy ending versus that of a living, breathing human, are grotesquely different, as another terrified teen soon learns...
  • Roach, the guitar wielding, mullet wearing, jethro who just wants to play his music, alive or as a zombie…
  • The local “chef extraordinaire” who likes to make his very own jerky, with whatever type of flesh skin is available (be sure to get a sample of for yourself), be it cat, goat, or yet another terrified teen who learns firsthand how it feels to be filleted, then boiled alive…

Norma controls them all and uses the teens and their pastor to feed both her sexual as well assadistic desires, as we learn that her deal with the devil all those years ago cost not only her soul, but that of everyone she took down in the process. Unfortunately her motley crew seems to be just getting started...

The Verdict

Trailer Park of Terror is cheesily humorous, fast paced, and soaked with enough blood and entrails to appease almost any gore fan. Bear in mind this movie was billed as a “dark comedy” so if you want Resident Evil type plot and execution, then this is not the movie for you. But if you were a fan of The Living Dead and Night of the Creeps and have no problem with redneck stereotypes, then this flick might be just what the mortician doctor ordered.

With a kickass, southern-rock-with-a-country-twist style soundtrack, and a few familiar "what is their name again?" faces, you are in for 96 minutes of cheesy, campy - and rockin' - fun!

Disagree with me? Come on.... I dare ya.....
