When Michael Jackson was cool…..

Does anybody else out there remember when Michael Jackson was cool?? You know - when he was black, wasn't freaked out by sunlight, had a normal nose, and wore a white glove on one hand?? You weren't embarrassed to buy his CDs, crank the radio if he was singing about Billie Jean (Billy Gene???) or listen to how he simply enjoyed the company of children. Why? Because MJ was cooooolllll.........!
Now you might be asking yourself what this has to do with a Lil' Blog of Horrors - how does Michael Jackson tie into a blog about things that go bump in the night?
Ok - maybe that's not such a tough question to figure out HOWEVER I am going somewhere with this - and that somewhere is the inventive, $800,000 budget, mini-film/video - Thriller:
What an awesome video! Can you believe it was made 25 years ago??? (WOW am I getting old!) I think what amazes me most about this video is the incredible cinematography and awesome direction by John Landis (known for such favorites as The Blues Brothers, American Werewolf in London, Animal House, and Trading Places, among others.)
Another thing that I especially enjoy about this video is the voice over by Vincent Price, most widely known for his acting roles in horror movies from the 1950's through the 1970's. He's got that crisp creepy quality to his voice that drives the chill factor home. His name and his voice is synonymous with the horror genre.
So here it is..... 25 years later and the Thriller video is just as awesome as it was the first time I ever saw it on MTV. Now if only I could still say that about Michael Jackson......................
Karen – I think the lesson is lay off the nose!! But I must agree with you – money definitely warps the thought process of what is do-able…….. its really pathetic in this case, I think.
Truly, a tragic example of too much money that is good for you. You apparently start thinking you can do ANYTHING and get away with it….. If you’re poor, the first time you do something perverted you go to jail and everyone keeps track of where you live when you get out. Also if you’re poor, and you are insane enough to think your nose is the root of all evil you 1) take your medication and stop thinking about it or 2) go berserk and either cut it off yourself or get your scary white-trash cousin to do it for you for $50 bucks. Now if you’re rich and you start looking at your nose and thinking it is the root of all evil, you keep going to plastic surgeons until there is so little living tissue left the end of your nose falls off. There must be a lesson in there somewhere.
Man, I love, love, lurve that video. It’s got to be the best halloween themed music video ever. Too bad he’s no longer cool.
Ah, I don’t even like Michael Jackson and that is a great song.
But I wouldn’t listen to it without the video, because it’s just epic.
